Nevada, a state which has suffered mightily during the nation's current economic woes, a consequence of the downturn in tourism and the collapse of the Las Vegas housing market, has a new economic engine, Harry Reid himself. An influx of anti Reid conventions and events has given a sharp boost to the state economy.
"There's no doubt about it," says a spokesman for the state's visitor and tourism bureau, "Right now, the State is deriving big benefits from the national anti Reid sentiment on the Right. We are planning to take advantage of this while it lasts, a new promotional campaign is in the works. We will be staging anti Reid rallies every week this summer, with major celebrity participation. Sarah Palin is just the beginning. If Senator Reid is reelected, this could carry us through the current rough spot in our state economy."
This new economic phenomenon has not gone unnoticed at the headquarters of the campaign for senator Reid's reelection, where a spokesman had this to say.
"Senator Reid has always been willing to do whatever he can to help his beloved home state. It is gratifying for him to now realize, he himself could be the key to Nevada surviving its current economic hard times. Naturally he is willing to participate in any way he can. And the evidence is now clear, the best thing Harry Reid can do for Nevada is get reelected. We have just completed a new study confirming the positive economic impact his reelection will have on tourism in Nevada. We plan to use this information in a major way in our campaign going forward. I do not think there is another member of congress whose mere presence can have such a positive influence on their state's economy."
New work just published by UNLV researchers has revealed the more unpopular Reid becomes, the better it is for the state of Nevada, and as a consequence the better his reelection chances become. Voters, the study reveals, are beginning to take notice. Their attitudes are changing from simply, Harry Reid is a jerk, to Harry Reid is a jerk, but he's our jerk, and we like it that way.
Senator Reid himself seemed positively brimming with new confidence at the news his unpopularity was now the key to his reelection hopes. He is quoted as saying,
"It is gratifying to realize that I may be playing a bigger role in the state's economic recovery, than has been previously understood. My actions have always been in the best interest of the people of Nevada. My trust in the voters of this state is complete and the new evidence shows my trust has been well founded."
There is also news of a new theme hotel on the strip in Las Vegas. Seeking to take advantage of the anti Reid sentiment the hotel will have an Impeach Harry Reid theme. All guests will be given the opportunity to participate in mock impeachment hearings of Harry Reid. The question of whether or not a US Senator can be impeached in Nevada is of little consequence to the entrepeneurs who see a gold mine in this new venture. "If we go ahead with this project, we expect to become a destination for the Tea Party movement," said a potential partner in the venture.
Indications are, that Harry Reid, who has long been a servant of the people of Nevada, may now have been given his greatest opportunity to give something back to his beloved homestate, not only as a legislator, but as his state's greatest new tourist magnet. Harry Reid's unpopularity may now hold the key to both his reelection hopes, and the State's hopes for a quick return to glory.
