Why I support John Edwards

Mon Sep 03, 2007 at 06:15:45 PM PDT

There are a lot of reasons for supporting John Edwards, many that have been diaried here - his detailed, realistic proposal for a transition to universal health care, his support of unions and a living wage, his desire to wrest control back from corporations and steer this country to true democracy, his exhortation to serve this country in whatever capacity you are able, etc.

There are many other characteristics and accomplishments of John Edwards that haven't been covered, however.

If I've missed any, please feel free to comment additional entries.

Republicans are mean and stupid

Mon Jan 08, 2007 at 11:39:01 AM PDT

That may seem self-evident, or childish, but words have meaning.

When we grasp at all of the adjectives that can describe what's going on in the leadership of this country, Apple's Steve Jobs has shown us that sometimes, we have to get back to the basics.

More on the flip.

Case that allows Congress to rein in president...

Thu Jan 05, 2006 at 07:06:55 PM PDT

From Hugh Hewitt, no less. Is Hewitt a lawyer, or play one on TV?

Here's more of the right, just trying to blind-side unprepared guests with "precedent" unrelated to whether Bush broke the law or not. Or probably what Hewitt thought he was presenting to the left.

In this case, it was Rosa Brooks, a constitutional law professor at UVA Law School, formerly of the US State Department human rights bureau.

Except in this instance, Hewitt may have given us some great ammunition.

Pertinent verbiage and analysis after the flip.

Josh Marshall points to a press release on the White House web site that attempts to defend against Milbank's and Pincus' charge of the misuse of intelligence:

Pat Roberts (R-KS): "We've been working on it" - *Really?*

Wed Nov 02, 2005 at 12:18:57 PM PDT

One of the latest Republican talking points has been that the Senate Intelligence Committee has been working on the possible misuse of intelligence in the buildup to war all along.

Social Security and Privatization: What is "Naked Shorting?"

Sun Mar 13, 2005 at 10:32:07 PM PDT

Here's an interesting discussion I was recommended over on Overstock.com. Basically, it refers to the practice of "naked shorting" or shorting a stock that you really haven't even borrowed, but have been allowed to buy and sell to maintain market liquidity.
