Reported in France that Ben Laden is dead.

Sat Sep 23, 2006 at 03:32:54 AM PDT

A French newspaper is reporting that Ben Laden died of typhoid in August. This story has been picked up by Reuters of Canada but I dont find it in America. Can this be the October surprise? I will link to the diary on eurotrib.com on this matter which furnishes the other links.http://www.eurotrib.com/...

America is so yesterday.

Looking at the news today:

China seeks "strategic partnership" with Africa
"Hu Jintao said on Thursday, seeking to add a new political dimension to a blossoming economic romance.
In a speech to Nigerian lawmakers, Hu underlined China's respect for African "independence and sovereignty," which analysts said was a deliberate contrast with the United States' interventionist diplomacy under George W. Bush."

Wlii the international community make the U.S. pay

Thu Nov 04, 2004 at 04:51:40 AM PDT

financially for reelecting Bush. I am sitting here watching CNBC Europe and I notice that the dollar (now $1.286) is close to it's record low against the euro which was approx. $1.29 made last winter. When it looked like Kerry was leading the other day the dollar had strengthened to $1.26. I pose the following questions as the basis for further discussion.
  1. Are the U.S. twin deficits (internal and external) getting too large for the international community to be willing to finance, at least at current interest rates? Bush has so far showed no sign of being interested in facing this problem. Certainly the internal deficit is largely his creation.
  2. Will interest rates be forced way up to stem the flight from the dollar which is always inflationary? A large rise in interest rates could help cause a new recession. Also, interest rate rises usually are bad for the stock and bond markets.

Will we attack Fallujah

Fri Oct 29, 2004 at 09:56:00 AM PDT

on Sunday or Monday.http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&e=2&u=/ap/20041029/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq
I saw this possibility mentioned before as part of a discussion of Rove's October surprises. If the order is given and the attack occurs on Sunday what does the Kerry campaign say about it.
(Excuse my messy format. I don't understand this stuff.)

Has anyone noticed the Dow Jones

Fri Oct 22, 2004 at 12:11:17 PM PDT

Industrial Average has fallen below 9800 and well below its support of 9850. As I write it is at 9764. With all of the leading indices falling could the October surprise we are all looking for be a stock market crash? Although not a particularly pleasant happening for the country, that would provide the last nail inBush's coffin.

Breaking -Jesus of Nazereth to be deported.

Wed Sep 22, 2004 at 11:10:41 AM PDT

WASHINGTON - Homeland Security officials said Jesus Christ of Nazereth — formerly known as carpenter Jesus ben Joseph — will be deported Wednesday after being denied entry to the U.S. for being on a government watch list.

The former carpenter and now radical left wing philosopher was a passenger on United Airlines Flight 919, en route to Dulles International Airport from Tel Aviv  when the match was made Tuesday between the passenger and a name on the watch list, said Nico Melendez, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration.

The plane diverted to Maine and met by federal agents at Bangor International Airport around 3 p.m. EDT, Melendez said.

Homeland Security Department spokesman Dennis Murphy identified the passenger as Jesus of Nazeeth. "He was interviewed and denied admission to the United States on national security grounds," Murphy said.

Officials had no details about why the peace activist might be considered a risk to the United States. Jesus had visited New York in May for a charity event and to promote a DVD of his '22 Sermon on the Mount.

One official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Jesus, 33, was identified by the Advanced Passenger Information System, which requires airlines to send passenger information to Customs and Border Protection's National Targeting Center. The Transportation Security Administration then was contacted and requested that the plane land at the nearest airport, that official said.

Melendez said Jesus was questioned by FBI (news - web sites) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Another federal official, who is in law enforcement and spoke anonymously because of agency policy, said that after the interview, Customs officials decided to deny Jesus entry into the United States.

Flight 919 continued on to Dulles after Jesus was removed from the flight.

Jesus, who was born Jesus ben Joseph, took Jesus Christ as his nom de plume and had a string of well known sermons in the early 20's. Last year he released two sermons, including a re-recording of his '09 hit "Sermon on the Mount" to express his opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq (news - web sites).

He abandoned his carpentry career  in the late teens and changed his name after being persuaded by God that he had more important things to do than pound nails. He later became a teacher and an advocate for his religion, founding a  radical sect that tried to abolish the charging of interest for loans. Well placed sources say that it was this position that got his name placed on the APIS

A statement posted on a fan-supported Web site where his sermons are promoted said Jesus' being on a watch list "is certainly an error."

"It's also a very sad state of affairs when a man best known as a peace loving philosopher can be grouped into the same category Osama Bin Laden just because of he thinks differently," the statement said.

1014 dead young Americans in Iraq.

Tue Sep 14, 2004 at 01:05:26 PM PDT

I realize that short diaries like this are stretching the Kos rules but I think it has to be pointed to regularly, since I see no mention of these deaths elsewhere, other than icasualties.org. Thirty six Americans have died in the first 14 days of September. And we all know that hundreds of Iraqis have died during this same period. So everyone please pardon me if I have violated the rules.

Look at electoral-vote.com

Fri Sep 10, 2004 at 08:27:00 AM PDT

This site shows Kerry 252, Bush 254. What do I get from that site? Kerry has to firm up NJ, IA, WI, CO, and take PA where he's behind by 1 point, and it's won. He doesn't need OH or FL. Of course I can't vouch for the accuracy of all the state polls. Perhaps someone has a better take on that than I do.

I am sad to write

Tue Sep 07, 2004 at 05:46:15 AM PDT

that there are now 998 American soldiers who have needlessly died in Iraq.

Job situation from Briefing.com

Thu Sep 02, 2004 at 07:32:21 AM PDT

"All in all, today adds up to looking like the market is beginning to wake up after a slow summer - and a particularly slow week - and look ahead to the fall months. The alarm clock is set to ring with the jobs report tomorrow morning. Today is more likely to be similar to those moments when you are actually awake in bed, but prior to the alarm going off: you are awake and conscious, but waiting for the signal to arise"
If the jobs report is bad tomorrow the bells will be tolling for Bush.

Is Kerry a cat; Bush a hyena?

Wed Sep 01, 2004 at 04:21:55 AM PDT

While everyone is agonizing and wringing their hands over the softness of Kerry's reaction to the August attacks by the Bush campaign I am reminded of my three cats, the two females in particular. I live in the country and their are often birds in my garden. I also have a lot of moles who like to destroy my lawn. The two things I notice when my cats are hunting: silence and patience. They can sit for hours waiting for a mole to start digging and come near the surface. They seem to know exactly where the mole will surface. Then when the mole starts digging, two swipes with the paw and its all over for the mole unless they let it go. Very similar with birds. Silence and patience are the keys. I'm hoping this is Kerry.
When I think of Bush it's the hyena. Feeding on rotting meet after someone else has done the dirty work. Think swift boat vets.
Let's see if my theory holds true after this week.

August consumer confidence # way down.

Tue Aug 31, 2004 at 07:52:04 AM PDT

I was just watching CNBC europe and saw an interview with Deloss Smith of the Conference Board which produces this index. He was not very optimistic about the economy but the reason I'm posting this (and I was only half listening) is that he said something to the effect that the White House has been frantically calling for several days to get a preview of this number. My interpretation: they're scared shit of the weekening economy. This Friday, the day after Bush gets nominated the August job numbers come out. If the number is as disappointing as July's or if there is a negative number(jobs lost instead of created) my feeling is that this election is all over and that Kerry can almost go on vacation.

"Up to His Old Tricks" internet ad with McCain.

Tue Aug 24, 2004 at 03:32:45 AM PDT

I live in Europe so I presume that the ad referred to above (found on the Kerry web site) is running only on the internet and not on TV. I have watched that ad at least 20 times and I feel it is the most effective political ad I have ever seen. Are they saving that for TV later as the coup final?

I can't find the word "Iraq" on Kerry's web site.

Thu Aug 12, 2004 at 10:41:00 AM PDT

Can anyone help me? Or does "Iraq" not exist for the Kerry Campaign?

Twelve young Americans dead.

Thu Aug 05, 2004 at 11:30:16 AM PDT

Twelve American soldiers have been killed in just five days in August and I see this nowhere except on Lunaville. Who knows how many Iraquis have died in these same five days. It gets worse and worse and harder and harder for me to live a normal life. And it gets harder and harder to watch this poor excuse for an election campaign where everyone is punching and counerpunching and no one is screaming "America, what have you done?"
