It was a tough birth. Foal was a red bag, which means placenta detached from the uterus and came out first, so foal was in danger of losing oxygen. You have to break the placenta quickly and pull the baby out, so she doesn't suffocate. In this case, everyone acted quickly, which saved the foal, but she was weak, and she was also very big, which didn't help. The foal, a filly, was unable to stand on her own. So off to the University vet clinic she went. Some good care, a little time, a little surgery, and mare and foal were well enough to come home. It's been two and a half months now, and I got some good pics on a nice day.
